The purpose of this list is to show the distribution of countries by region. We take our distribution from the U.S. Department of State. The countries on this list are independent states as recognized by the U.S. Government as of July 15, 2011. West Bank/Gaza is not on the U.S. Department of State list. It is included in the Middle East and North Africa region of the Greenbook because it receives U.S. Assistance.

Treatment of Countries Receiving Little Assistance or that No Longer Exist
Countries that have dissolved or merged continue to warrant a page for 10 years after the final year funding was received. Countries that do not warrant a country page are rolled up into a "not-specified" region or subsummed by another country.
On this website we are able to report that information. Such countries are bracketed and immediately follow the country or "not-specified" region into which they are subsummed. The following is the list of countries available from the Greenbook website which are not available in the printed publication. Each country is listed under the region or country in which its loans and grants are included.
